A Girls Camp that teaches me

This is the fourth year I have hosted an all girls camp. I wanted to share a piece of what I learned from my time at Assumption High School in Louisville, KY with my daughters Hazel and Clara.

Over the years, we have refined the structure but have always had one goal in mind… for young ladies to embrace themselves for who they are and who they are meant to be.

It is always hot, it is always exhausting and it is always a way for me to learn with the kids. The books we read and the activities we do help to remind me of these simple truths…

  1. We are all unique and it’s a good thing.

  2. We can choose how to respond to a situation.

  3. Being present is the root of change and peace.

  4. Practice and not giving up on things we want to accomplish makes us stronger.

  5. Kindess ripples kindness.

I am thankful for the support from my dear friends Rebecca Kokubun and Verity Rodrigues, the SPARKlers of the camp, the parents of the attendees and the girls that devote their energy to learning these valuable lessons.
