Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease is a neurological disorder affecting about 1 in 2,500 people. It can be life-altering and physically debilitating, and while there is no cure yet, research is bringing hope to families impacted by CMT.

The Coldiron family has hosted a Kentucky Derby party for several years to celebrate Dave Coldiron’s home state tradition. In 2015, they learned that their daughter Hazel was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT). Since then, they have been actively involved with the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) to support research and work toward finding a cure.
To raise awareness and combine their family's tradition of hosting an annual Derby-themed celebration, they created the Coldiron Derby — an event dedicated to bringing the community together in support of those living with CMT.
